I just moved a chair to sweep the floor and was dismayed at the damage to our beautiful
flooring. The window is screened by a large tree so never gets direct sunlight but just look at the bleaching from reflected UV rays in just 3 years
Imagine the damage to my skin if my desk were had been here instead!
This is a really important issue for anyone sitting in direct sunlight that comes through a window.
Regular glass blocks almost all UVB rays but allows UVA to come through.
Both UVA and UVB rays are harmful. Remember:
UVB is the main sunburn ray, it causes skin cancer and wrinkles
UVA penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB , it causes skin cancer and wrinkles
UVA It is also the ray used in tanning beds
Tinting – Adding sheets of UV blocking film to windows, or when replacing old window choosing glass that includes technology to block UV rays can:
1) Help to lower your cooling costs
2) Extend the life of your furnishing.
3) Save your skin

About sunnysleevez
I'm a freckly red head, originally from London now living in LA with 2 pale children. Frankly with our coloring we have no business being such an outdoorsy family and living in southern California.
I grew up in a time when factor 8 sun milk was considered the best protection available to combat the hot rays of a holiday in southern Spain, that lead to 3rd degree burns and the rest of the vacation spent in the shade of our apartment.
As a family we love to be outside, going to the beach, camping, swimming & hiking. We can't completely avoid the sun (nor should we) but taking sensible measures to avoid unnecessary UV damage is a priority.
How do we do that? By staying in the shade in the middle of the day, wearing sun protective clothing (that's why I created Sunny Sleevez), a broad brimmed hat, UV rated sunglasses, using chemical-free broad spectrum sun screen on exposed areas & eating a healthy diet with as few chemicals as possible & lots of antioxidants.
Smart.

great read thank also reblogged
thanks ever so much
Great post! UV is serious radiation that causes cancer, and ruins lots of other things too.
thanks for the good advice!
Wow! This really drives home the point. I’m a sunscreen lover these days (and for a good while now) but oh how I wish the teen me was not a sun-worshipper. I used to like nothing more than turning a deep bronz and now shudder at the sun damage stories my skin may tell in the future.
I just heard recently some crazy statistic about the incidence of skin cancer for people who sit near and office window. I was shocked! Great post!
I’ve nominated you for The Sunshine Award! Check out this Link: http://allthingsboys.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/the-sunshine-award/
