First Time Camping? Use These Tips To Prepare!

There are some things you need to keep in mind though, so here are a few tips to make your camping trip work out great.

Research any potential campground well. They all have different amenities. Some may have showers and bathrooms, while others may not. There are even a few campgrounds that are quite fancy, with onsite miniature golf games or water parks. You may not need or want all that, so figure it out ahead of time so that you are not disappointed when you get there.

Make sure that you avoid any venomous plants. A good way to do this is to stop at the ranger station and ask what kinds of poisonous plants are in the area so you can identify them if you come into contact with them on the trail. Never eat anything while hiking on the trail if you do not know it is edible.

Over-packing is better than under-packing when it comes to children. Camping can be messy. Children seem to be dirt magnets. So, you are likely to be dealing with grimy kids all day long. To prepare, bring additional clothing for your children. Be prepared for dirty clothes and dirty children by packing extra clothes.

If you are interested in camping, and you are new to the activity, then you should never start out alone. It can be quite dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing, so it is important to bring along an experienced friend to help you learn the ropes.

Check weather reports in the area you plan to camp in. There are many great websites that can also give you a good idea of what weather is typical for the area during the time you plan to visit. Having a good idea of what the weather will be like will ensure that you pack accordingly for your trip.

Ask a park ranger or a tour guide to let you know about all the places to check out while you are camping. This is a good idea so that you know you are getting the most out of your camping experience, you don’t want to take a camping trip and miss out on a fun experience.

Any time you go camping; do not forget to bring a first-aid kit along with you. Since accidents can happen at any time, a first-aid kit is a very valuable asset to possess. Be sure to include topical creams for bug bites, sun burns and poison ivy when putting your kit together.

Pack extra flashlights and batteries. It can get quite dark at night, away from all the city lights. A light source is very important. Bring a few spare flashlights just in case. Make sure that you pack extra batteries as well. A light source is something you do not want to find yourself without.

When camping, most people enjoy relaxing around a campfire. To prevent your fire from becoming out of control, you should incorporate a few safety practices. First of all, build your fire away from bushes and trees so that sparks from your fire will not start a forest fire. You will also want to use a circle of rocks to contain your campfire. Do not ever leave your fire unattended. Before leaving your campsite, make sure your campfire has been totally extinguished and that there is no remaining hot embers.

You can relax when you’re camping, and when you’re enjoying yourself you can get a bit more in tune with yourself. Use the tips in this article to make sure you really enjoy all there is to enjoy on your camping trip. Look for ways to make your experience one you will remember.

2) If you have an old piece of carpet at home bring it to put outside your ‘door’ to take shoes on and off and keep your tent clean

3) Invest in headlamps, they free up your hands, rarely get dropped down the toilet are worn at head height so make kids more visible to drivers than a flashlight

  2. I totally understand your love of camping. I have many fond childhood memories of camping with my Dad and siblings every summer. My husband and I have enjoyed camping with our dogs for years. Great pratical tips for novices.
